Succulents are low maintenance, but a little love goes a long way! Here’s how to keep your plants happy and thriving:
Watering: Only water when the soil is completely dry. Wrinkly or soft leaves are a sign your succulent is thirsty. When you water, soak the soil until water drains from the bottom.
Light: Succulents love bright light! Place them outdoors in morning sun or partial shade, or indoors near a sunny window.
Soil: Well-draining soil is key. A succulent or cactus mix helps prevent overwatering and root rot.
Pot: Choose a pot made from a porous material like terracotta or cement, and be sure it has a drainage hole. This helps the soil dry more quickly and keeps excess water from sitting on the roots, which can lead to rot.
Temperature: Bring your succulents indoors before temperatures dip below 35°F to keep them cozy.
These tips are a generalization for overall succulent care. Care needs can differ based on succulent type.

Signs Your Succulent Needs More (or less) Attention
Whether you keep your succulents indoors year-round or just to hibernate for the winter months, they will tell you what they need. With less sun and airflow, the soil takes longer to dry—so they need less water than usual.
Your plants can usually recover from a bit of dryness, but overwatering is much harder to fix, so it pays to be careful!
When to water:
Firm, full leaves: Plump leaves mean your succulent is happy and are full of water—hold off on watering.
Soil is still damp: Check with a chopstick or skewer—if it comes out wet, don’t water.
When to pay attention:
Wrinkled or soft leaves: Time to water.
Yellowing, translucent, or mushy leaves: Likely overwatering—do not water.
Black or soft stem: Could be serious—avoid watering and inspect carefully.
Stretched or leggy growth: Not enough light—move your plant to a brighter spot.
Dropping leaves: Check both soil moisture and light conditions.
By watching for these signs and adjusting care for the season, your succulents can thrive indoors all winter long!
